Ian has been expanding his knowledge of the use of acupuncture and this can now help , for example, patients who find they gag when anything placed in their mouth: face pain, seriously dry mouth : sinusitis and dental anxiety can all be treated using acupuncture.
Acupuncture consists of inserting one or two very fine needles into very specific spots of the skin that stimulate special nerve pathways. It is not painful , you are just aware of a tingling sensation with an initial slight ache.
Another way to help those who are very nervous about dentistry is by using hypnosis. This does not make you go to sleep but under the guidance of the dentist focuses your mind very intensely and is very useful to assist relaxation.
We suggest that you try practising a relaxation at home. Make yourself comfortable where you will not be disturbed for 5 minutes or so and close your eyes Imagine being seated in a dental chair and ry and do some slow deep breathing with this image. If you practice this every month or so when you are faced with the reality this will not be so stressful
Ian has reduced his time spent at the surgery… I always am there on Thursdays sometimes until late, I also do many Friday mornings and once a month a Saturday morning. I may be there at other times to help. I have 2 grandchildren to visit and enjoy! I still am elected as a local councillor for Walsall . I also run Oak tree Trust which supplies a lot of overseas humanitarian aid
